Free home row typing lessons
How to practise the home row
Place your left index finger on F and your right index finger on J. The raised marks on those keys help you find your starting position without looking down. Rest the remaining fingers on A, S, D and K, L, ;. After every reach, return each finger to its home key before typing the next letter. Keep your wrists relaxed and your eyes on the screen.
Start with the F and J lesson, then work through the other key pairs in order. Type slowly enough to notice an incorrect finger or an extra keystroke. Repeat a lesson until you can meet its accuracy target consistently; speed can come later. The short drills teach finger placement, while a full passage tests whether you can maintain accuracy for ten minutes. When the home row feels natural, continue through the Typing Master course or take a timed typing mock to check your current W.P.M.
